Service was good- quick, attentive and friendly. Food was delicious too - flavourful duck and mushroom soup and soba noodles. Portion size was small relative to the price, as they also charge a 10% service fee on a Saturday night. Left the restaurant and had another salad somewhere else.

A hidden gem in Australia for authentic handmade soba and fresh sushi! The soba had amazing texture, the sushi was beautifully prepared — so delicious I forgot to take photos. Relaxing atmosphere and friendly staff make this a place I’ll definitely come back to.

We visited this Japanese restaurant with high hopes of trying their Okonomiyaki dish and they did not disappoint! The dish was absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked and full of flavour. The service was wonderful, with attentive and friendly staff who made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. A special mention to the restaurant for accomodating one of our party’s dietary restrictions (gluten and dairy free). They went above and beyond to ensure everyone had a great dining experience. We had a fantastic time and would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for authentic Japanese cuisine.

Jugemu & Shimbashi absolutely did not disappoint with their exquisite food palette. In particular, their pork x asparagus dish was sublime. Although the food is quite pricy for the portion, we all had an enjoyable time savouring on unique Japanese food. Parking is available in front of Neutral Bay Coles, free in the night time.

My absolute Favourite restaurant in Sydney for over a decade. Consistently good food, only place I know in Sydney that makes handmade soba. Delicious duck and tempura soba. Tamagoyaki entree as well as beef tataki and carpaccio are also some favorites. Oh and the okonomiyaki, consistently delicious. I'm back at least once a year. It would be more often except I live on the opposite end of Sydney! If I can make one suggestion it is to serve oshiruko /zenzai as dessert. Thanks Ricky for always being a great host! - June 2019 March 2023 edit: Still amazing, still my favourite Japanese restaurant in Sydney. The ONLY place to eat handmade soba. September 2025 edit: STILL AMAZING! tempura soba was just how I remembered. The soba shiratama was interesting and yummy

A cozy little spot with a welcoming atmosphere and super friendly staff who were more than happy to walk us through the vast food menu — much appreciated! There were a few hiccups with service: our beer took quite a while to arrive, only to be told (after asking) that it had sold out — would’ve been better to know upfront. Food also took over 40 minutes to come out, so plan ahead if you’re in a rush. That said, the meal had its highlights. The duck and mushroom soba in hot broth was full of flavour and definitely the standout. Tempura came in a clear, slightly acidic broth — decent, though not particularly memorable. We also tried the okonomiyaki, which was pretty great — not overly doughy, nicely cooked, and packed with flavour. Loved the idea of toppings served on the side so you can customise to your liking! Portion sizes were generous in our experience, despite hearing otherwise — so that was a nice surprise. Overall, a solid experience with good food, helpful staff, and a relaxed vibe. A few service improvements and it could easily be a 5!

Had dinner at Jugemu & Shimbashi and it was truly one of the most authentic Japanese dining experiences in Sydney. The soba was freshly made with a delicate aroma and perfect texture, while the okonomiyaki was fluffy and full of flavor, cooked right in front of us on the teppan. Enjoyed it all with a cold beer, which made the meal complete. The staff were welcoming and polite, and the atmosphere felt like being back in Japan — cozy, relaxed, and full of charm. Highly recommend for anyone craving real Japanese comfort food and warm hospitality.
